Circling For Peace
Practicing Presence with Self and Others
Anticipation fills my plans for World Labyrinth Day on May 2nd 2026, where three dear Circle sisters — Jenifer, Kaya, and Nala — will join me at ‘Awapuhi Labyrinth.
The tradition of walking labyrinths as one at 1 PM in local time zones began in 2009, and it’s grown to over a hundred countries. Participants walk existing ones, create new permanent or temporary installations, trace finger labyrinths…
The phrase “walking as one” reminds me that a peaceful path begins within.
You are warmly welcomed to join us for this global event, hosted locally on the Big Island of Hawaii. Here is a light “flucture” — a portmanteau of “flow plan” and “structure” — of the day’s events.
12:00 PM “Art and Walk”: Create a Flag for Peace
Decorate a blank fabric square with your prayer for peace—global, personal, relational. Help us decorate the labyrinth with the fluttering prayers.
All materials will be provided. You are welcome to arrive with a clear intention or to discover one as your hands begin to move. Give form to what longs to be expressed.
As flags are completed, we will tie them along the labyrinth center, creating a space of shared intention
1:00 PM World Labyrinth Day Walk
Join a global tradition to “Walk as One at 1,” adding your footsteps to a wave of walkers encircling the Earth. You will be welcomed into the labyrinth to walk at your own pace, following a single winding path toward the shaded center.
There is no “right” way to walk. Move in silence, sing along with music drawing you forward, pause when needed, notice what arises. Some walk with a question, others with gratitude, grief, or a simple wish for peace.
Notice the flags, each one placed by a loving pair of hands. Together they create a field of presence to hold us as we move inward and outward, individually and collectively.
When you reach the center, you may linger to participate in the circle or return to the entrance when you’re ready.
2:00 PM Circling for Peace: Practicing Presence with Self and Others
After walking the labyrinth together in the spirit of peace, we will gather for a series of simple relational practices designed to help that peace become something we can feel, practice, and carry into our relationships and communities.
Peace is not only the absence of conflict—it is the presence of awareness, curiosity, and connection. In these Circling practices, we will slow down and notice what is happening inside us while staying in contact with others. We will explore how to speak from our direct experience, listen with openness, and remain grounded in ourselves even when differences arise.
Through gentle relational games such as “I Notice, I Feel, I Imagine” and curiosity-based dialogue, we will practice being present with one another in ways that support understanding, empathy, and shared humanity. These exercises are accessible to everyone—no prior experience with Circling is needed.
You are invited to come as you are.
To listen.
To be seen.
To stay connected to yourself while connecting with others.
Together, we practice peace not as an idea, but as a lived experience.
WeI hope that you’ll join us at the ‘Awapuhi Labyrinth (check out this Google Maps link to its location in HPP) to celebrate World Labyrinth Day on May 2rd, 2026.
RSVP or ask a question below, or you can find other World Labyrinth Day events near you.
Circle shares and labyrinths are two of my truths, and I can’t wait to share them with you!
